This blog is a day late due to some technical difficulties. This morning we had one more delicious breakfast at the lebua hotel and then we headed to Agra. The drive was five hours so we had a lot of time to look out the windows and see India. Delhi is a big city, on our journey to Agra we got to see more of the country side of India. It's very flat. It appears to be farm land.
We got to see the cows of India. They roam free, wander into traffic and no one seems to care. There are still people everywhere walking along the road. There were tons of fruit stands along the side of the road.
I also saw a lot of building that looked like shrines to the Hindu gods. Half way through the trip we stopped at a restaurant to eat lunch. It was a neat little place. They had tons of little figurines; elephants, owls, turtles, Hindu gods. They had it all.
At the entrance there was a little boy who was a snake tamer. He had a flute and a basket full of snakes. He had no fear of them at all. Us on the other hand, not so much.
After we ate lunch we got back on the road. Once we reached Agra we went to a bear preserve. They rescue bears that were used as performers. I think they said they have about 200 bears. It was really sad to see some of the bears because they still have the "music in their heads." They would sway back and forth, back and forth, hardly stopping. There were also monkeys roaming freely around the park, lots of birds, and there were signs educating us on the snakes in the area. Thank goodness we didn't see any.
The most exciting part was Matt getting attacked by a peacock. If only you were there. Speaking of Matt, it was his birthday. He got special treatment at both hotels. They each brought him cake and candles. We all wrote him little messages on postcards and then gave them to him. He said it was the best birthday ever. I'm glad we got to be a part of it. Once we got to Agra we had a couple different dinner options. Some people went across the street to an Indian restaurant and the rest of us went next door to a Pizza Hut. I decided I would try Pizza Hut in India. It was quite the experience. First off, there was night club music coming from the speakers. Second, most of the pizzas were made after an Indian dish. I'm not sure how the other group did at their restaurant, but we had a great time.
After dinner we split up into groups again. Some people went to the movie theater and watched The Avengers. Others went to the market. The rest of us went to the pool at the hotel. I was in the pool group. It was great. We worked with Sandy to try and teach her how to swim before we go to the beach and learn to surf. It was a great way to end the day. Our trip has been so fun and I can't wait to see what else is in store for us.
